The Holographic Universe is the second music video for Kat Holiday. It’s essentially the positive alternative universe that is the heaven, compared to the nightmare of the first video, The Walker, shown below. It’s almost impossible to write a ‘short’ synopsis for this work, so just go watch it.
Work flow blended hand-drawn cel animation with 3D EFX. Watch this on the biggest screen you have. It makes a surprising difference due to the spatial effect the environments create.
Kat handed me a well developed treatment for what she wanted, with reference material. I designed and produced all the visuals used in the video. I also took on a new roll. I did the sound design used for the credits.
Below are the storyboards that were later timed to the audio in the animatic reel.
The Walker was the first music video for Kat. It looks like a modern zombie story. It’s really an allegory about deep feelings of loss.
I contributed some background renderings and a little bit of cel animation EFX to the next project, The Pit: Dr. P, Adam F and Method Man, Directed by the talented Richard Payne.
Show Me a Sign, by Modestep, was another Richard Payne directed project. My contribution was character art and props painting (pre-animation) for the illustrated scenes of mayhem, after the opening concert stage shots.
